I was talking with some friends about the Rumble and who we thought was going to walk out the winner. Well that got me thinking and I went online and looked up results for past Rumbles and I found something interesting. The past 4 Rumbles you have had the winner of the Rumble in a WWE title match the year before. Sure thats not always the case, as with Alberto Del Rio, but let me show you the facts.
In 2007, John Cena defended the WWE title against Umaga. The following year in 2008 he won the Rumble.
In 2008, Randy Orton defended the WWE title against Jeff Hardy. The following year in 2009 he won the Rumble.
In 2009, Edge defended the WWE title against Jeff Hardy. The following year in 2010 he won the Rumble.
Now here is the where it gets slightly tricky. Sheamus was in a WWE championship match in 2010 and in 2011 he didn't win the Rumble due to the fact of the WWE over pushing ADR, but the following year in 2011 he won the Rumble.
(i'm sure if i did more research, I could back it up even further than this)
Here is where it gets good. If we use the above system, we can almost guarantee the winner of the Rumble this year. I know people will call me crazy but the fact is backed up. I believe that CM Punk will walk out of the 2013 Royal Rumble with a WWE Title shot at Mania. Now sure I could be wrong, but I thought this would be an interesting thread to post and see other people's ideas on this whole thing.
Personally I am rooting for Dolph to run the gauntlet and win from number 1, but idk if that would happen. He was in a WWE title match with Punk last year, so who's to say he couldn't pull it off with the current system WWE has with booking Rumble winners lol.
But regardless, if it's Punk or it's Dolph, the winner will have been in a WWE Championship match the year prior to the Rumble win.
If Rock/Punk is on before the Rumble for whatever reason, then I think there's a big chance Punk loses to The Rock, but enters the Rumble and wins it. I think it will be the main event, but you never know. Interesting theory though.
Another interesting fact is that from 1999 to this year(14 Royal Rumble matches) there have been 14 different winners.I bet this will change this year.
Dont be so sure. I was positive that Cena will win this rumble but then I thought...he doesnt need it to face The Rock.
My bet are on Ziggler or Ryback. Ziggler for the reason he was like one of the only ones that got screwed and had to pick 1 or 2, making it up for some sort of build around him. Ryback for the reason he is over as hell.
If Punk/Rock is before the RR and Punk loses the title, there's a big possibility he joins the match.
But for what reason they would have Punk go again for the title if his 434 day reign is over?
Just because his long reign ends doesn't mean they couldn't keep him in the title picture. If he won the Rumble they could build up to Rock/Cena/Punk for the title maybe? It sure would be interesting if he won the Rumble.
Yes if they were going to have a triple threat, then you're right it would be stupid to take the belt off Punk before 'Mania. But if that scenario happened where Punk loses title to The Rock but enters and wins the Rumble, who else could he face at 'Mania?
Here's another statistic for you, since 2001, they've all been different people, no repeats. Which is one reason I still don't buy that John Cena is winning this.
What he means is since 1999 there has been a different winner every year. In 2001, Stone Cold won and he had already won 2 before. So there's been no repeat winners since 2001, but a different winner each year since '99.
It's in the hands of WWE bookers if CM Punk gets a rematch or not. This "rematch clause" thing doesn't work on every scenario. We have seen too many title matches that the losers never took a rematch.
Kane Eliminates 4-6 people
DB Eliminates Kane
Chants Yes yes Yes and gets eliminated
ziggler will last 50+ mins
ADR Retains
Shield will run in are eliminate/beat down people
Sheamus,Miz,Ryback will beat them/eliminate them
Final 4 Ziggler,Ryback,Orton,Cena
Cena Wins Rumble
Rock beats Punk (Maddox Interferes and fails gets a rock bottom then another Rock bottom to punk and people's elbow)
I have thought it for a while now and I still think Ryback will get the win. The WWE majorly pushed the guy in 2012 and he lost a bit of momentum due to Punk needing to retain until his already decided match with The Rock. Therefore it would be good for Ryback to have the win and go after Dolph Ziggler's WHC after he cashes in on ADR at the rumble.
The WWE Title no1 contendership can be contested in the Elimination Chamber as I can't see The Rock defending in the chamber some how. That could be the match that Cena wins and takes on The Rock at Mania a match that will more than likely happen.
I really don't get this fixation people have with Ziggler cashing in at the Rumble. Lets look at this way:
ADR-Big Show you would most likely think will go on before the Rumble. Does that mean ADR retains, Ziggler comes out and cashes in, then comes out later and enters at no 1 as the new WHC? i doubt it
If Punk/Rock goes on before the Rumble as suggested earlier, and as suggested by me months ago; Rock could get screwed out of the title by Brock, enter the Royal Rumble, and get a title shot at Wrestlemania. Rock Main eventing for the title and winning his first title in 10 years? Yes please.
P.S. Ideally I would want Rock vs Lesnar (c) at WM. But my plan for this would require Rock, Triple H, Punk, Lesnar, Cena, and Undertaker in the Elimination Chamber. An absolutely must watch match, but extremely unlikely we'll get.
I don't think either guy will even be in the Rumble, much less win it.
Using your theory, the "tricky" part about this year is that nobody lost the title last year for the first time since the 80's, so you'd have to go further back to see who the next guy would be. If Punk lost the title, then according to your theory that'd mean he'd be a likely candidate to win NEXT year's rumble, not this year's
Just like many people last year thought Punk would've been a guaranteed Rumble winner if he didn't have the title yet. Instead, since you have to go further back due to Punk's reign, then we're talking about either Alberto Del Rio or John Cena. And since Alberto Del Rio already won 2 years ago and is in the WHC match, that narrows it down to John Cena.
Based on your theory, John Cena is the most likely winner of the Royal Rumble this year.
I had thought Orton would be a logical choice to win it a few months ago, but he's been in midcard hell for awhile now. Then there's Ryback, but WWE has had him lose every important match. Sheamus already won last year, and will probably get a shot anyway. Ziggler already has the MITB case.
Really, Cena's the logical choice. Hasn't had the title in a year and a half. Of every long term top babyface, Cena's the only one to not win it twice. Hulk won twice, HBK won twice, Austin won three times, Cena just won once.
Punk will be winning one of the next two rumbles. Whichever Rumble WWE doesn't already have the title on him during.
I never said it had to be the former champion. Sure it fits the theory better, I just said the person was in a WWE Title match the year before. So in 2012 seeing as both Punk and Dolph were in the match, they are the options. Sure is not a 100% accurate way to come up with a prediction, but it's fun to speculate.
Also how does my theory point to Cena? He wasn't in a title match last year.
I'm just praying it's not Cena, i really can't call it this year!
