There is an awesome episode of Raw is War on Youtube (if you search for Raw awesome show you will find it) but look at the matches on there-
Val Venis vs Albert... awful right? Nope, because there was a story where Albert and Droz ambushed Venis and tattooed him so Venis was after payback.
Mark Henry vs Viscera- another awful match on paper but it was part of a story involving Henry and D'Lo brown and Viscera betting that Henry couldn't slam him.
Big Boss Man vs Austin- Pretty average main event but was part of a wider angle involving Shawn Michaels booking Undertaker and HHH (both corporate members)to face each other that night forcing McMahon to pick Boss Man to face Austin and try to save face.
Let's look at the match everyone was moaning about on Smackdown-
Tensai vs Khali- awful match and yes it was awful because we had no reason to watch it- if they had given it even a shred of context we might of given it time of day to see how it affected the story.
It is the booking that makes the show, not the roster.
I constantly claim the AE was a little overrated. Not that it wasn't the prime of pro wrestling, but that it wasn't as amazing as ppl think it was, that it was just driven by a handful of ALL TIME GREATS and wasn't actually a deep, amazing roster. But, you just wrote what has to be the most constructive, intelligent post I've ever read on these forums. You actually showed that an entire card of mediocre wrestlers had great storylines. Its so true. Why couldn't Tensai/Khali have SOME build? Even a night's worth of build, or a wk's worth of build, just have Tensai mock Khali or something, anything, but they just threw them out there. Its not even about great storylines; if mediocre midcard matches just have decent storylines it goes a long way, and complements the great main event storylines.
