New Japan was, and will always remain STRONG STYLE, simply because that's how New Japan calls their Heavyweight wrestlers (like... WWE "Superstars"). Strong Style has nothing to do with a certain wrestling style, tbh, it's just a phrase. It's just that people identified Strong Style with old school, (semi) shoot style back then. And they still do that, unfortunately. Stylistically, New Japan's present style of wrestling is what could be called the "Spectacle Style", something like WWE Style done right, something like the old WWF style.
The submission stuff that I've seen from NJPW is just on another level compared to American wrestling. You can't even compare Hart/Austin to Suzuki/Tanahashi. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I can't fully appreciate Hart/Austin but that is how I feel about japanese wrestling.
