I found Ornstein and Smough to be a fun battle and not too challenging than I first thought. Sure I died a few times, but I always knew that I could defeat them. Ornstein I found to be the toughest, mainly because of his speed and the fact I had to use a shield, so I was limited to one hand attacks. Smough was much easy thanks to his speed and much easier attacks to dodge against. So that helped me being a light character. Hardly used any heavy armour throughout the game.
Also, I had a Black Knight Halberd +5, and Power Within to make it an even fight. Plus that Dark Wood Grain ring came in handy as well.
