I don't mind a show having multiple arcs just arcs get completely abandoned for too long (the Elias thing really annoyed me). The plot development might have been an over exaggeration but it felt like I could just watch the first and last 5 minutes of most episode and not have missed anything.
I didn't think either of the characters developed at all in the time I watched it, there was nothing outstandingly revealing in the flashbacks that you couldn't work out from the first episode.
