Re: Your Top 5 Favorite Movies
Dead Man's Shoes made me want to go and rewatch Taxi Driver. Very similar atmosphere of restrained aggression.
Top 5, first four have been set in stone for a while, places beyond that are always shuffling around.
1.) Goodfellas - The rise and fall of a group of loveable but treacherous gangsters as depicted at 100 miles per hour by a director at the peak of his powers.
2.) Citizen Kane - Beautifully structured with one of the early seemingly unimportant scenes proving to be the most crucial moment in the entire film. Storytelling at its finest.
3.) Taxi Driver - A terrifying portrait of what happens when individuals start to listen too intently to the dark voices in their head. Hard to say what's better, Schrader's script, Marty's direction or De Niro's haunting lead performance.
4.) Godfather Part II - One of the finest examples of a supremely lengthy film that you just wish was a little bit longer. The dark transformation of Michael Corleone is as convincing in 3 hours as Walter Whites is in 5 seasons of Breaking Bad.
5.) A Clockwork Orange - Chilling and hillarious and perverse and beautiful and absolutely mesmerising visually.
If you can imagine Zidane's touch combined with Pirlo's vision and Roy Keane's will to win then you have some idea of the genius of Diego Maradona.
