This Friday in his home city of Miami, The People’s Champion will step inside a SmackDown ring for the first time in 10 years. For the first time in a decade, The Rock returns to “his” show!

When WWE looked to debut the blue brand back in 1999, they wisely chose to mold their newest incarnation in the image of The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment by naming the show after his explosive catchphrase, “Layeth the SmackDown!”

Now, one week before SmackDown celebrates its 700 episode, The Rock will make a rare appearance. It comes just 16 days before The Brahma Bull will battle WWE Champion CM Punk one-on-one for the WWE Title at Royal Rumble on Jan. 27. Could the dangerous Straight Edge Superstar look to destroy his legendary competition prior to their pay-per-view showdown?

Or might The Shield – who WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon still suspects to be in cohoots with Punk and who proved to be the difference in the champion’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs Title Match against Ryback on Raw – dare to attempt to ambush the seven-time WWE Champion, the way they have done to so many Superstars?

It’s also a distinct possibility that other SmackDown competitors, such as World Heavyweight Champion Big Show, Sheamus or Randy Orton, may have something to say to The Great One.

Find out if The Rock with indeed Layeth the SmackDown, this Friday at 8/7 CT on Syfy!

Re: The Rock on January 8 will be on SMACKDOWN

It would almost be like seeing one of your children for the first time in years, and when you left he was healthy and full of life, and now he's just absolutely broken and decrepit.
That's a pretty good description of the situation. SD is a dead brand for more than 4 years now.

Anyway, like I said, the timing was probably perfect for him with the show in his hometown and the fact that he had some free time between all the craziness that is his schedule for the first half of 2013. Plus, when Rock would be there, for one night it's going to be a different atmosphere on SD. Hard to believe that it's going to be 10 years since he was on his show live when he cut that masterpiece of a promo that should be a prime example in every class of crowd interaction in any industry, Indianapolis February 2003.

It also gives Rock more time to promote his "title journey" for the Rumble and hype the importance of the belt for him. If WWE were smart, they would do this SD on USA Network, but even with the platform of SD today, it should be enough as an extra selling point. Would love to see some rare interaction like a Rock/Orton/Sheamus/Mysterio or old school like Rock/Show/Booker.

Re: The Rock on January 8 will be on SMACKDOWN

Well, that means I'm gonna watch SmackDown for the first time since last year's godawful Christmas episode (IN NOVEMBER!) with Foley Klaus Cocks.

Rock/Miz on Miz Tv would be a pretty damn good segment. They can both humiliate Punk and Heyman with The Shield interrupting the segment. Then Ryback and Cena should come out to save them and close the show. That would be AAAWWWEEESSSOOMEEEEEEE...

Great news if this is true.

EDIT: Seems legit.

Tyrion, its in his hometown, doesn't surprise me when you consider that.
Alright, I guess that makes more sense. Still, I can't help but wonder what he thinks when he looks at SmackDown today. It would almost be like seeing one of your children for the first time in years, and when you left he was healthy and full of life, and now he's just absolutely broken and decrepit.
