Just finished this game a few days ago and I ended up really enjoying it, I would actually put it slightly behind or equal to Brotherhood on my list of favourite AC games.

I thought the story was great, captured the atmosphere of revolution very well for the most part. I loved the locations as well, the cities seemed a lot more authentic than in previous AC games with New York being my favourite. The frontier added great variety, tree running was pretty awesome and it was great fun searching for collectibles around there, not so good for missions except for the battle sequences which were actually a lot better done than I expected they would be. I was very impressed with the new additions of naval and homestead missions with the naval ones being especially fun. The main antagonists were good as well, Haytham was cool, collected and condescending for the most part whereas Charles Lee was rather maniacal, I liked them both.

Negatives are that the first 4 or 5 sequences were tedious, I actually considered giving up on the game I was getting so bored, however I held out hope that it would open up and it certainly did. Also, Connor was actually a very unlikeable and often quite annoying character because of how bitchy he was, it looks like they will be continuing with his story though which I don't really mind because there are still a lot of interesting things to tell, they could have made a better protagonist though, something similar to the flair and coolness that Ezio had would have been fine.

I have never cared for the Desmond story so I can't really comment on that.
