Over 11 years on and in this dark period in wrestling, who else still misses WCW and wishes they'd made it through without crazy, old, egomaniac Vince getting his hands on the company? The industry today would be better for it.
More than anything I just miss the feel of WCW. I miss the talent, the logo, the arena's, I miss Nitro, I miss WCW Worldwide on channel 5, hell I even miss Tony Schiavone and Scott Hudson on commentary.
Yes, up till 98 very much so going back to the 80's. As sad as I was at the time to see this company go along with ECW, They have both been replaced by ROH and TNA. In some ways the wrestling landscape is similar to what it was in the late 90's promotion wise which is good imo.
I sure do. Mostly from 1983-1990 then 1995-1999 the rest (not sure about stuff earlier than the 80's) only had a few decent things once in a while IMO.
Living in the uk I enjoyed wcw but the one thing that let it down at the time for me was I was never able to see the pay per views as it was long before I learnt to download.
I was never as big of a WCW fan as I was WWF. That being said, the WWF product was 10x better with competition. Everyone should miss it, even if they never watched an episode of Nitro.
I miss the unpredictability that WCW brought to the table. I'm in the process of rewatching Nitro from the start of the nWo angle and it's a breath of fresh air. TNA sometimes fills the void that WCW left but not entirely.
WCW was nothing more than ABA(in terms of basketball) or WHA(in terms of hockey), if you don't know what those 2 leagues are, them look them up.
Don't know why people ever wanted WCW to win over WWE. Minus the 2-3 years WCW had of being great, do you really think if WCW won monday night wars, they'd have been better after that?
That'd be like saying you'd want Nintendo to have beaten Sony and Microsoft in console wars. Sure, Nintendo did have great stuff in 90s like gameboy,n64 and all that, but if Nintendo was THE gaming console out there, then things like the Wii would be the main thing people use today. That's what it'd be like if WCW had won the monday night wars.

Learn your history. Nintendo crushed the competition with NES and SNES before Sony and Microsoft ever thought of making a console. If Nintendo had beaten Sony and Microsoft in console wars, we most likely would not have had the Wii, which was made to be a niche product and instead had a more traditional HD gaming console. Also, we'd have Nintendo's amazing 1st party games along with the 3rd party support that the XBox 360 and PS3 now enjoy.
It was horrible in the last 18 months or so, even worse than todays WWE.
But my god...when it was good (pretty much all the way up to 1999) it was truly fucking brilliant. It kicked the WWF's ass in terms of quality for most of the 90s in fact.
I'd take WCW in 1999 or a lot of 2000 over today's WWE. Both are bad though. The final few months of WCW in late 2000 and early 2001 were so brutal that even today's WWE is better. I can remember Sid and Steiner main eventing Starrcade without much build up at all and with all the creative team changes over the final year and a half or so of the company things rarely made sense.
Today's WWE gets away with a lackluster product because there's no competition. When WWE sucked in the mid 90's you could always switch over to Nitro and when WCW started to suck we could switch over to RAW. Now one is dead and we get the other shoved down our throat.
What I really miss is that old WCW formula. Shows with a great undercard for work rate and high spots, followed by big time Semi and Main Events that felt important even if the actual in-ring wasn't so great. There were things they did that Vince really didn't/doesn't have much interest in eg. Luchadores and Japanese talent.
Yes, especially on nights like tonight after watching RAW. Earlier I watched WCW Starrcade 1997 and WCW SuperBrawl VIII, and I remembered how good those of use who were kids during the MNW and AE had it- we had WCW, WWF, CMLL, AAA, (ooops, I meant WWE), and ECW. Now we just have WWE, TNA, CMLL, AAA, and if you're up late enough, and your provider will air it, ROH.
