Everybody back then, fan or hater, was practically begging that Ryback would actually start feuding with real stars. Pretty much everything he got until HIAC was earned.
If anything, Ryback (and for a while Clay) are proof positive on how much of a benefit it is for a new face to have a match where they DON'T have to get beaten around by their heel opponent just because of cliched wrestling psychology.
With the "goldberg push" you dont go from squashing jobbers to contending for a main title. Vince wants this guy to be a top star so bad, that he's foregone the whole building the guy up part of the push.
Yeah, he was undefeated. But what the fuck does that mean if he hasnt even beaten a handful of credible stars?
