Secret Of Mana/Legend Of Zelda Hybrid; Two Brothers Announced For Wii U eShop

Ackkstudios has informed me that they are now officially Wii U developers. Yesterday they were approved. Ackkstudios currently has around 17 employees. They all worked in the CG animation industry or game industry for at least 4 years and are a bit ahead of the typical indie scene.

They’ll be bringing their game “Two Brothers” to the Wii U’s eShop for a targeted 2013 release. Next year, Ackkstudios will give a more specific time frame for the Wii U release date of “Two Brothers”. They are currently in the infant stages of porting the game to the Wii U since they just became licensed.

Two Brother was originally funded on Kickstarter, whose stretch goals helped with this Wii U release. They reached $16,257 out of a goal of $6,000.

Ackkstudios will also be at PAX East on March 2013 to reveal their second game which is an ambitious modern 3D RPG. There is no title available yet for this game. The Wii U is being strongly considered for their big 3D Roleplaying game, but no platforms/consoles will be officially announced until PAX East this March. When I spoke to Brian, he said games like “Earthbound” and “The World Ends With You” have an influence on the 3D RPG’s visuals. They are still deciding whether this game should be a multi-platform game, Wii U exclusive, or something else. According to Ackkstudios, the 3D RPG is already in playable form.

You can check out Ackkstudio’s Pax East booth at Booth 1165.
Information on Two Brothers

Two Brothers is an Action/Adventure/Role playing game created in the style of Game Boy games for Wii U, PC, Xbox 360, OSX, and Linux. The gameplay is similar to games like “Secret of Mana” and “The Legend of Zelda” in gameplay. The game’s visuals are a throwback to the Game Boy era of games without strictly adhering to the limitations of the system as this game is developed for modern technology. The game will be in high definition.

As for the actual appearance of the game in relation to the plot, the general lack of color is a core element of what the game’s story is about:

The core story of Two Brothers goes something like this: You take on the role of Roy Guarder, a young inventor who begins to obsess with the idea of finding a new color on earth after a near death experience shows him an after life filled with color. Your brother, Bivare, who is also an inventor and explorer, soon takes on your obsession and you begin a quest.

Fucking awesome looking game, might actually buy a Wii U for real now. Love the Gameboy/NES throwback graphics.
