I think what happened is that in the 80s and 90s it was mostly bodybuilders. bouncers and amatuer wrestlers who got involved in wrestling.
Today it's teenagers who are wrestling fans who train wrestling and they grow up to look like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.
I'm not talking about muscle mass, as stated in the OP.
It's a rather remarkable improvement, IMO.
Maybe for a photo shoot of the new Coldplay cover but for wrestling, in my opinion, nah.
