Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
Go look at some old Rap City freestyles, you can find so many instances where x rapper here phones it in and freestyles some lines from a song off one of their albums. Even recently, go to the GOOD Music cypher a year ago, Kanye does it. Freestyles don't "prove" anything for me.
Also, how are Drake and Bieber phonies? They never claimed to be great freestylers (Bieber isn't even a rapper for that matter) or anything.
I don't really place a high priority on freestyling. Lil Wayne is one of the best at freestyling but his overall music is garbage. Of course, it should be a requirement to be an OK freestyler but as long as the music that you write down is great then that's what really matters.
Kanye has never been a top elite rapper, he is in the Dr. Dre class of producing and rapping. Drake, Lil Wayne etc. All claim to be top Hip Hop talent but they can't rap for shit and they're just bubblegum pop music.
In terms of lyrical content, Kanye is way above Dr. Dre. It's not even close.
I was referring more to the "corporate douche bags" type of comments. And now you gave another one with.....Two good talents going today, huh? LOL. Yeah, that's indicative of that phase I'm talking about too, lol. "Fuck Nelly and Jay-Z and Cash Money! That Kweli is the real shit! It's all about the underground!". Wash, rinse, repeat, shit don't change, just the names do.
What do you have against Kweli anyway? Sure he can get preachy at times but he's a great rapper with great lyrics.
Thank you Edge.
