To be fair, Doug Naylor fully accepts there are loads of character inconsistencies and plot holes. For example, in the early series Lister made references to his mother and grandmother, only for his story to change by series 6 or 7 to him being abandoned in a box in a bar and him turning out to be his own father, and his girlfriend was his mum.
I really enjoyed the new episode. It had a shaky start, but kept improving. I am hopeful for the rest of the series if it maintains that improvement curve.
Not to mention his getting pregnant and not so much as a mention ever again.
For fans, I'd suggest watching season 6 with the commentaries on. I swear it's just as entertaining as the episodes (3 or 6 are my favorite seasons).
