Re: Rate & Mini-Summarize the Last Movie You Saw
Crash
Not the David Cronenberg film but the 2005 film of the same name. It's a really interesting exploration into the causes and consequences of racism over the course of a couple of days in Los Angeles, covering a whole spectrum of characters from different ethnic and economical backgrounds (wealthy black film TV producer, angry white cop, Persian locksmith). Rather than just a "racism is bad" angle, it delivers a lesson in where racism stems from and what its effects can be. None of the characters are innocent - they all have prejudices of their own - and they are all victims of some kind of racism at some point in the film (ranging from insults and arguments to killings, robberies and violent stand offs). There are some great performances in this film (Matt Dillon particularly impressed me) and some genuinely moving film-making at work. Can't rate this film highly enough.
