Team Cruiserweight: WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms, Shannon Moore, Jamie Noble, Kaz Hayashi and Elix Skipper after Tajiri nailed Hayashi with the Buzzsaw Kick

The pay-per-view opened up with some cruiserweight tag team action as The Filthy Animals of WCW took on X-Factor of the WWF. The match had some great spots including Rey Mysterio jumping off the top turnbuckle to hit a hurricanrana on Justin Credible on the outside, and as X-Pac helped his partner up, Billy Kidman hit a spirngboard Shooting Star Press onto all three guys. The end came when X-Pac climbed to the top turnbuckle but was hung out to dry when Credible was knocked into the ropes. Kidman elevated a running Mysterio onto the prone X-Pac and hit a superhurricanrana into a pin for the win.

And that tag team match would follow as a matter of family pride conflicted as Edge and Christian took on Los Guerreros. Another quick paced match saw Chavo get the upper hand on Christian but as Edge speared Eddie on the outside, Edge had the time to pull Christian out of the way of Chavos Frog Splash and Christian hit the Killswitch for the three count. Test was in the back talking to Michael Cole and Test was nervously looking over his shoulders every few seconds but said he wasnt scared of Kane, he said he would beat up anybody and anyone who got in his way, and he nearly proved tht when Molly Holly got in the ring on Smackdown, Test said she is lucky that her boyfriend put himself in the way because he would loved to have taken her head off. But back to tonight and Test says hes willing to do anything to make sure his reign as Hardcore Champion lasts more than 3 days. Test threw a fake punch at Cole before smirking as he left.

A very brutal battle was up next as WWF Hardcore Champion and traitor Test took on the man he put out of action over a month ago, Kane. Test hit a Big Boot onto a trashcan into Kane but The Big Red Machine just sat up and Test tried to retreat. They ended up all around the arena, Kane tormenting Test and as they came back through the entrance ramp, Kane tried to Chokeslam Test off the stage but Test blocked it, low-blowed Kane and then Big Booted him off the stage. Test looked down on Kane before hitting a diving elbow drop off the stage onto Kane. Test crawled over Kane for the three count.

More gold was on the line next but it was WCW gold this time as Tag Team Champions Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire put it on the line against The Hardy Boys, after an even opening, Palumbo and O'Haire took control of Matt Hardy wearing him down for a long time, the end came though when the other Hardy would get into the ring with a hot tag. Jeff exploded into action and was taking both men down and after a blocked double Twist Of Fate from both WCW guys, The Hardys sent O'Haire into the corner, Jeff hit Poetry In Motion but was caught in midair by O'Haire who showed tremendous strength to powerbomb Jeff onto his brother arched back. Palumbo came across and lifted the prone Jeff onto his shoulders and O'Haire climbed to the top and they hit the Doomsday Blockbuster Neckbreaker for the three count and retained their belts

A bitter battle was up next and was a rematch of the best match from Fully Loaded, as Kurt Angle took on Lance Storm. Both men were weary of one another but Angle seemed to have stepped up the intensity but Storm hit a Superkick out of nowhere that Angle only survived by because his foot was on the bottom rope, but the move cut Angle open. Storm locked in The Mapleleaf and Angle started to wane and was on the verge of passing out for the second straight pay-per-view but somehow gained the power to send Storm flying off. But then Angle walked straight into a huge German suplex. As Storm prepared to jump off the top rope on a prone Angle, Angle leaped up and hit a belly to belly off the top rope. Angle hit The Olympic Slam and then the straps came down and a bleeding Angle locked in the Ankle Lock and was screaming as Storm was in agony, Angle wouldnt let the hold go or be countered and Storm eventually tapped

As the match ended instead of celebrating Angle kept the hold on and refused to release and even scissored the leg so Storm couldnt escape. The referee had no choice and reversed the decision. Storm escaped as Angle protested and Storm hobbled up the ramp with a smile on his face

The 2001 King Of The Ring and WWF Intercontinental Champion Rhyno was out next to defend his belt against Chris Kanyon, but there was nothing 'Positively' about Kanyon tonight as the quickest match of the night saw Rhyno hit The Gore after 2 and a half minutes to retain the title. Rhyno looked very impressive

Diamond Dallas Page is talking backstage about how it is time for him to prove to the world how Chris Benoit is a small boy trying to play way above his limit. Page says Benoit was never missed when he left WCW and that tonight he would feel the BANG!!! As Page turned round he bumped right into Benoit, who said the only banging they will be hearing tonight is Pages arm tapping up and down, if he doesnt break it first. Page tries to shrug it off and leaves

A more lengthy affair was up next as a Chris Benoit took on Diamond Dallas Page. There was obvious bad blood between the two as both showed overly aggresive attacks and Benoit was insane as he German suplexed Page over the top rope, Benoit then climbed to the top turnbuckle and dived but Page blocked it, fighting on the outside Benoit got the upperhand again and placed Page on the announcers table, Heyman screamed at Benoit to think about what hes doing and Benoit climbed back to the top turnbuckle and hit a diving headbutt off the top rope through the announce table. Both men barely made the count and Benoit quickly tried to get the Crossface on but Page gouged the eyes of Benoit before rolling him up and grabbing both Benoits tights and the ring ropes for leverage to get the dirty win. Benoit was fuming afterwards and locked Page in the Crossface, no decision could be reversed this time and Page was tapping out in no time and Benoit was pulled off and held back by security as Page ran up the ramp

A video plays next hyping the next pay-per-view: Unforgiven

Backstage and Chris Benoit is angrily searching for Diamond Dallas Page but is interrupted by Shane McMahon who says beating up Page wont get Benoit anywhere, he tells Benoit to forget about it, tonight proved that Benoit cant live with the big boys. Benoit napas and locks Shane in the Crossface on the concrete floor. Shane is screaming in agony as referees and backstage staff swarm over to try and pry Benoit off. There was four matches left and WCW only needed to win one. And they would be defending the WWF Tag Team Championship in the next one as The Revolution, Perry Saturna and Dean Malenko defended against the guys they took the belts from in a triple threat at Fully Loaded, Bradshaw and Faarooq, The APA. Malenko tried to keep Bradshaw grounded but it looked like when attempting his powerbomb, Malenkos knee blew out. Malenko tagged out but never tagged back in as Faarooq hit the Dominator on Saturn and Malenko was knocked off the apron by Bradshaw. Faarooq covered Saturn for the three count.

Backstage and Michael Cole is interviewing The Rock, asked on his views about what happened on Smackdown, The Rock said that he doesnt know why Ric Flair did what he did, and he doesnt care either, The Rock never asked for Ric Flairs help and The Rock doesnt need Ric Flairs help, and when he goes out tonight Ric Flair will go one on one with the Great One, IF YOU SMELLL.....WHAT THE ROCK.........IS.......COOOKIIIINGGGG!!!!

The highly anticipated match between The Rock and Ric Flair was up next and the two icons started off with a long unphysical staredown and choice of words. When they did eventually get going it was the quickness of The Rock that started to show as he laid into Flar but Flairs ring presence saw him avoid a right hand and chop block The Rock, Flair then took The Rock to school and worked over the leg. Flair would lock in the Figure Four Leg Lock and it looked like Flair was going to win the night for WCW but The Rock just got to the ropes. Flair pulled The Rock up but got hit with The Rock Bottom out of nowhere. The Rock covered but only got a two count as Flair somehow kicked out. The match was tense but as Flair had The Rock on the top rope and was up with him delivering punches to the head, The Rock hit a huge Rock Bottom off the top turnbuckle. The Rock decided to forget the pinfall and delivered The Peoples Elbow to finally stop Flair and pick up the victory

The Rock celebrated on all the turnbuckles as Flair stayed down and as The Rock exited The Dudley Boys stormed the ring and assaulted Flair, the crowd were booing but The Rock failed to respond, after some deep thinking The Rock finally went back and took care of The Dudleys, Flair and The Rock shook hands after

Eric Bischoff is in the locker room with Booker T and Chris Jericho, Bischoff says its time to finish off the job, because obviouslt Flair couldnt get it done. He says Booker T must shut that foul mouthed Texan up once and for all and then with the war won Jericho will put the cherry on the top by taking the WWF Championship off of The Undertaker. The penultimate match of the night was one of huge implications, a rematch from Fully Loaded, and the same result would see WCW take home the spoils with another match still to come. Stone Cold Steve Austin was out to avenge his Chris Jericho aided defeat to Booker T. Stone Cold tried to brawl his way through the match but Booker was smart enough to use his speed and athleticism to keep Austin at bay and his quick offense saw him hit the Harlem Sidekick, Booker line Austin up for the Scissor Kick but Austin swung his head out of the way, went for a Stunner but Booker T shoved him into the ropes. Booker T with a Bookend but Austin elbowed out and hit a Stunner for the three count. Austin avenged his loss, Austin levelled the scores and Austin earned his guarandamteed WWF Championship shot.

Backstage and Vince McMahon is talking to the Undertaker telling him its all on him, only he can save the WWF skin, save the WWF Championship and save the pride of the WWF. Taker tells him to shut it or the only thing he be saving is a couple of whacks for Vince after he takes care of the intruder in his yard. Vince agrees then Taker leaves but Vince is making a call and is heard saying he needs somebody, now.

So it was finally time for the main event, the WWF Championship, WCW or WWF, Chris Jericho or Undertaker, possibly the end of the world as we know it. And both superstars produced a classic, Taker took to the match quickly beating Jericho down but Jericho used underhand tactics to even the score, but as Jericho had Taker in the corner, Taker gripped him and shoved him into the corner and started boxing him up. Taker pulled him out and went for The Last Ride but Jericho reveresed it into the Codebreaker. Jericho locked in The Walls of Jericho and held it for a long time but the WWF Champion eventually reached the ropes. JEricho went for a Lionsault but was caught by Taker around the throat who stood up and hit a Chokeslam, Taker covered but Jericho somehow kicked out. The match was poised as Jericho managed to springboard dropkick the referee after The Undertaker dodged and Jericho would hit the Codebreaker. But the ref was down and Jericho decided to lock in The Walls of Jericho but the crowd cheered as the ring opened up and out stepped a long haired savage looking Big Show, Show immediately grabbed a shocked Jericho around the throat but then Jericho started smiling as Show let him go and Chokeslammed Taker. Jericho coveres as Show revived the referee. Jericho got the cover and the win to win his first ever WWF Championship and give WCW victory at Summerslam

WWF 5-6 WCW

After the match Jericho held his title aloft as he celebrated with a moody looking Big Show as Summerslam went off the air and the WWF were without their championship
