alright, this match (especially the ending) is regarded as one of the worst decisions ever made in WCW. was it only the ending that messes everything up or was it just one big cluster-you know what. I actually like the idea to establish a new dominant champion to bring cred back to the belt, but obv things did not work out that way.
discuss, could this match have been a success if it put the right person over in the end?
The triple cage Tower of Doom match preceded the end of WCW by over a decade. WCW brought it back but it was originally done in the late 80's. Match wasnt spectacular but it was more a visual moment to see that monstrosity. It seemed to be inspired by Donkey Kong to be honest with you.
It's actually an enjoyable match, in a 'WTF is this?' kind of way. But the ending, dear lord.
Dear lord. It was bad. You know you've got to heighten suspense of disbelief a little bit more with this one, but jesus hell there's not even any point because that ending is the biggest troll in pro wrestling this side of Supercena overcoming the odds
The triple cage match is my absolute favorite gimmick match, but it was poorly executed IMO. What is a more badass match type than having 3 cages stacked on top of one another? The cage looked really flimsy at times though, I'm surprised nobody fell through and got injured. Imagine the match with a sturdier build and substitute the wrestlers with great in-ring workers, and it would be a masterpiece.

^ Not sure if you're being totally serious, but the DDP/Jarrett/Arquette match is actually pretty good. Not 4 stars but it's a fun main event match, which is rare from WCW at the time. The ending swerve is also hilarious, if only for Schiavone & Hudson's commentary.
The Wargames 2000 Triple Cage match is fun to watch in a "what the absolute fuck is going on?" kind of way. If you consider it from the point of view of being a legit, PPV quality match on Nitro designed to get people and the title belt over, it's a disaster.
i dont think it was such a super horrible idea, that messed everything up itself. but it was like the straw that broke the camels back. the title was allready devalued enough. until 1999 the title came from a long line of credibile title holders, who had strong runs and seemed invincible, and the title changes allways seemed big and had a strong crowd reaction.
then slowly (in late 99) the title started changing a lot more, often in weak screwjob finishes, to little crowd reaction, with no real title runs at all. the title had no credibility anymore, even jeff jarrett held it. and to put it on david arquette, without him winning it clean of course, wouldnt have hurt a healthy world title, but it did hurt wcws world title because it was allready devalued
Jesus Christ that Doomsday match from Uncensored 96 was absolutely horrific. A match that bad is illegal in some countries.
