WWE Money In The Bank

As we go to the arena the commentators join us, but after they greet the audience instead of hyping up the crowd they say that there is some important footage that needs to be shown. They say that something rather significant occurred before tonight’s event and it has changed one of the matches.

A video immediately plays on the titantron showing Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase backstage in Teddy Long’s office. The footage shows us Rhodes forbidding DiBiase from participating in Smackdown’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match tonight and says that when he qualified for the match, he wasn’t present at Smackdown and if he were then he wouldn’t have allowed it. DiBiase protests but Cody says that Ted has to be there for his match for the World Heavyweight Championship later. DiBiase is very reluctant but Cody says that if he participates in that match, their alliance and friendship is over. With his friend still not warming to the idea, Cody says that if Ted participates in his match then he will call his father. This seems enough to make Ted change his mind as he droops his head and gives in to Cody, who thanks him and tells him that they have a match to win later tonight. Cody and Ted leave and Teddy Long shouts after them saying that he can’t have a five man Money In The Bank Ladder Match. Cody replies by saying that Teddy still has half an hour before the show starts and it’s not his problem to solve.

We go back to the arena where the commentators say that Teddy Long quickly grouped together all the Smackdown stars he could find backstage and organised a spontaneous battle royale to decide the new sixth competitor for Smackdown’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

Another video plays on the titantron, showing the participants of that pre-show battle royale in the ring. Superstars seen are Brodus Clay, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, The Great Khali, Jinder Mahal, Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson, Alex Riley, Derrick Bateman, Trent Barreta and Yoshi Tatsu. The highlights of the 10-man battle royale are shown and the final four competitors are shown to be Brodus, Gabriel, Big Zeke and Alex Riley. Brodus throws Riley out of the ring and in an incredible feat of strength; Jackson picks up Brodus and tosses him clean over the top rope to the floor below. However, Gabriel, who was playing possum this entire time, suddenly sneaks up behind Big Zeke and bundles him over the top rope. Zeke’s feet hit the ground and Gabriel is declared the winner. A shot of him celebrating with manager Matt Striker is shown before the clip ends.

We go to the ring where it is time for the other Money In The Bank Ladder Match! The commentators hype all six Monday Night Raw superstars as they make their entrances, walking down to the ring that is already surrounded with at least half a dozen ladders.

Match One
Raw Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Dolph Ziggler w/Vickie Guerrero vs. The Miz vs. R-Truth vs. John Morrison vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Zack Ryder

The match is very much frantic from the get-go as all six men try their hardest to find possession of the briefcase hanging above the ring. Some big spots throughout the match include The Miz taking out Zack Ryder with a Skull Crushing Finale off the top of a ladder onto another ladder lying in the ring; Kofi Kingston hitting a Boom Drop from a ladder inside the ring onto R-Truth, who was on a ladder stretched out between the ring barricade and the canvas; and John Morrison nailing the Starship Pain on Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston who both stood on the outside. Eventually The Miz is left alone in the ring as he climbs the ladder, but before he can retrieve the briefcase Zack Ryder, who had been out of the match for over five minutes, slides into the ring and climbs onto the ladder. Rivals Miz and Ryder slug it out until The Miz throws Ryder off the ladder and to the outside, where he lands on Kofi and Ziggler, taking all three down to the canvas. Miz goes to grab the briefcase until John Morrison slides into the ring. The former tag team champions trade punches until out of nowhere JoMo hits The Miz with a Pele Kick that sends him off the ladder and down to the canvas below! In a few short seconds Morrison climbs an extra rung or two and grabs the Money In The Bank briefcase!

Winner and NEW Mr. Money In The Bank: John Morrison via Event (18:52)

There is a great ovation for “The Monday Night Delight” after the match as Morrison celebrates with the crowd. He soon makes his way to the back, holding his briefcase, on top of the world.

We go backstage to where Alberto Del Rio is arguing with Raw General Manager Jerry Lawler. From their conversation we gather that Skip Sheffield and Ricardo Rodriguez have been banned from Del Rio’s parking lot brawl with Jack Swagger later tonight and Alberto isn’t happy about this at all. He protests the decision but Lawler says that he has to make the match fair and this is the only way to do so. He says that if either Sheffield or Rodriguez appear during the match then Del Rio is suspended from Raw indefinitely, and to this, Del Rio storms off with his ‘entourage’ still unhappy with the decision.

We go back to the ring where Sheamus and Chris Jericho make their respective entrances, and the commentators hype Jericho’s return a month ago and the feud he has developed with Sheamus since then.

Match Two
Grudge Match
Sheamus vs. Chris Jericho

The match starts with Jericho using some face momentum to get off to an early start as he gets the crowd into the match. After a minute or so of being in control, Sheamus takes Jericho down with a clothesline that almost beheads him and thus begins a period of domination from “The Celtic Warrior”. Sheamus keeps Jericho grounded; using a lot of power moves to wear his opponent down, also gaining an array of nearfalls. However, like with all beatdowns, Jericho gets the stadium behind him and manages to make a comeback, hitting Sheamus with a few signature moves, only for Sheamus to, out of nowhere, take Jericho’s head off with a Brogue Kick that gets a very near fall. The domination begins again and after a few minutes Sheamus goes for the Irish Curse backbreaker, only for Jericho to counter the move and end up hitting his opponent with the Codebreaker, only for Sheamus to kick out! Jericho tries putting Sheamus into the Walls Of Jericho but doesn’t have the effort to roll his opponent over and gets kicked into the ring post. Both men meet in the centre of the ring and Sheamus charges for a second Brogue Kick, only for Jericho to duck and hit his opponent with a second Codebreaker, this time sealing the victory!

Winner: Chris Jericho via Pinfall (11:08)

The crowd pops as Jericho celebrates after the match. “Y2J”, still on a high from his victory, makes his way to the back, leaving a very frustrated and very angry Sheamus in the ring.

We go backstage to where John Morrison is with interviewer Scott Stanford and Raw’s Mr. Money In The Bank gets a big pop from the crowd! He says that he’s on top of the world and he’s going to discontinue the trend of cashing it in while the champ is weakened. Morrison says that he doesn’t know when he will cash in, but when he does, he will announce the match beforehand and win his first WWE Championship fair and square. The crowd pops but then Wade Barrett walks into the picture to heat. Barrett says that Morrison’s time in the limelight is going to end shortly as Barrett will become Smackdown’s Mr. Money In The Bank in mere minutes. He says that unlike Morrison he doesn’t care about fairness, he just wants a World Heavyweight Championship. Barrett says that he will win that briefcase and then he will become champion. The crowd boos as Barrett walks off, leaving a confused Morrison standing with the interviewer.

We go to the commentary team who hype up the next match, the parking lot brawl between heated rivals Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger. A video package plays, highlighting their two-month feud, before we say goodbye to the inside of the arena and cut away to the parking lot. Swagger is walking around with a referee, looking for Del Rio, but instead a different familiar face pops up a few metres away. Ricardo Rodriguez surfaces behind a car and Swagger’s interest is caught. He takes a few steps towards Ricardo before Skip Sheffield suddenly ambushes him from behind. Sheffield knocks Swagger to the concrete floor and stands over him as Del Rio walks into the frame. He shouts at the referee to start the match but the referee protests, saying that Sheffield and Ricardo can’t be there because of General Manager Jerry Lawler’s orders. After some arguing, Del Rio tells his allies to leave and goes back to his opponent, allowing the official to finally ring the bell.

Match Three
Grudge Match: Parking Lot Brawl
Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger

The match starts with Del Rio aggressively beating down Swagger, even getting help from the ring bell that the referee used to start the match. Jack manages to dodge a few attacks from Alberto and gets the cars involved as he slams Del Rio face first into a few of them. Del Rio is Irish whipped into the back of a fire engine and then the hood of the car, but he then pulls Swagger head first into the hood of the car, chipping the windshield and busting Swagger open! After a few suplexes on top of a limo, Del Rio decides its time to end things as he locks in the Cross Armbreaker on Swagger, only for “The All-American American to grab a dislodged bumper from a car and nail Alberto across the head with it. Swagger then nails Del Rio with a powerslam on the concrete before climbing the ladder on the back of the fire engine. After getting to the top of the red truck, a few metres in the air, Swagger looks to jump off but Del Rio begins climbing up the ladder as well. The arch-rivals meet on top of the fire engine and go at it for a while before Swagger gets an advantage and lifts Del Rio for the Gutwrench Powerbomb, before he slams Del Rio off the fire engine and onto the hood of an adjacent car, completely caving in the roof of the car! Swagger doesn’t even have to make a pin as the referee deems Del Rio unable to continue the match after checking on him, rendering Swagger the winner!

Winner: Jack Swagger via Knockout (8:11)

Swagger looks shocked at the scene below him, but nevertheless he hops down to the road and has his arms raised by the referee, as he watches Ricardo Rodriguez, Skip Sheffield and various medical personnel check on Alberto Del Rio, still incapacitated on the hood of the car.

We go back to the arena with the crowd buzzing after Swagger’s win and cut backstage to where Jerry Lawler is with The Straight Edge Society. He talks to Punk about how he banned Del Rio’s allies from his match and it made it fair and tells Punk that he will do that same for the WWE Championship match. He says that he has told John Cena that Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio and Evan Bourne may not be at ringside and now he is telling Punk that the rest of The Straight Edge Society may not be there either. Punk protests but Lawler replies with a stiff lip and says that his decision is final. Punk says fine, he knows he can beat John Cena on his own anyway. He leaves with The SES, mentioning before he goes that walking out tonight will be a new WWE Champion.

We go to the ring where it is time for the second Money In The Bank Ladder Match of the evening, this time Smackdown’s version of the match. The announcers hype up the high stakes affair as all six participants make their way to the ring and get ready for the match.

Match Four
Smackdown Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Justin Gabriel w/Matt Striker vs. Tyson Kidd w/Michael Hayes vs. Wade Barrett vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Sin Cara

Like the Raw Money In The Bank match that John Morrison won earlier in the night, the match begins with a frantic pace that sees all six men have their efforts showcased. With lighter men involved, the match seems to be even more of a spot fest with even faster flowing action than the night’s opener. Some big spots include Shelton Benjamin replicating his famous ladder run clothesline on Wade Barrett; Justin Gabriel hitting a 450° Splash from inside the ring atop a ladder onto the other five men standing outside the ring; Sin Cara hitting a Moonsault from a ladder inside the ring onto Tyson Kidd on the outside, sending him through the announce table; and Shelton Benjamin nailing a Paydirt from the top of the ladder on Sin Cara, sending the undefeated lucha down to the mat. Eventually Daniel Bryan finds himself atop the ladder, mere inches from the briefcase, with the crowd heavily behind him to win the match, only for Wade Barrett to come into the ring out of nowhere and push Bryan’s ladder over, sending “The American Dragon” hurtling to the outside of the ring, where he lands on a ladder stretched between the announce table and ring apron, snapping the ladder clean in half! The crowd is positively shocked as Barrett then places the ladder back into position, before climbing it, the heat increasing with ever step, and grabbing Smackdown’s Money In The Bank briefcase!

Winner and NEW Mr. Money In The Bank: Wade Barrett via Event (16:45)

After the match, the crowd boos as Wade Barrett descends from the ladder and holds his newly won briefcase into the air. He makes his exit to a lot of heat, making sure to shout out World Heavyweight Champion Christian’s name a few times before he leaves.

We go backstage, where WWE Champion John Cena is ready for his final interview before the big title match tonight. Cena says that he’s happy it’s going to be a true one on one match because he wouldn’t want to win or lose any other way. He says luckily the fans don’t need to worry about him losing because it simply won’t happen. Cena says that the one thing he values more than his WWE Championship is doing it for the fans and he says that they won’t be disappointed tonight. He says that Punk is getting his ass kicked and walks off to a big pop.

We go to the ring for the first of two title matches tonight. The World Heavyweight Championship is on the line as first Cody Rhodes, accompanied by Ted DiBiase, then Randy Orton, then the title holder Christian make their way to the ring after a video package plays. When all three are in the ring the announcements are made and the commentators get their last minute hype out of the way before the match begins.

Match Five
World Heavyweight Championship: Triple Threat Match
Cody Rhodes w/Ted DiBiase vs. Randy Orton vs. Christian ©

The first few minutes of the match go by with archrivals Orton and Christian at each other’s throats, and Cody Rhodes uses this to his advantage. He spends much time at ringside with Ted DiBiase drinking from a water bottle; recovering or simply watching the other two go at it. Whenever Cody Rhodes does inject himself in the action, it is usually to capitalise on one of the other two being down and going for a pinfall. However, after about five minutes of playing this game, Orton and Christian team up for a miniscule amount of time to catch Cody and make sure he stays in the ring and plays an active role in the match. However, “The Viper” and “Captain Charisma” then go back to slugging it out with each other, the small moment of teamwork simply done for their own benefits and not out of any mutual positive feeling for each other.

At the present moment, Randy Orton is the one that is outside the ring as Christian previously clotheslined him over the top rope. The World Heavyweight Champion is in control of Cody Rhodes in the ring as he has him in a headlock, which he transitions into a snapmare. Christian then kicks Cody in the side of the head, rolling him onto his stomach in the process. He lifts him to his feet before Irish whipping him into the corner and moving to the opposite corner to take a run up. Christian starts running at Cody but out of nowhere Randy Orton LEVELS HIM WITH A MASSIVE LARIAT! The crowd boos as Orton covers Christian, seeking the title that once belonged to him.

ONE!

T- NO!

Christian kicks out and Orton almost half-expects it as he is already dragging “The Instant Classic” to his feet, keeping him under control. Orton pulls Christian down onto his knee face first before putting him in a front facelock, only to be forced to break the hold after Cody Rhodes clubs him in the back. Rhodes spins Orton around before nailing him with an uppercut to the jaw. “The Master Of The RKO” staggers backwards from the impact and Cody then knocks him down to the mat with a dropkick. He then focuses his attention to Christian, who is overcoming his drowsiness, and he goes for another dropkick, only for Christian to swat his legs away. The crowd pops as Cody hits the mat and Christian brings him up to his feet before Irish whipping him into the corner once again, looking to complete the move he sought moments ago. To his own dismay, Christian is once again halted by Orton who spins him around- except this time he manages to grab Orton and whip him into a same corner! The two heels collide as the crowd cheers and Christian runs at them before NAILING BOTH ORTON AND RHODES WITH A MASSIVE LEAPING CLOTHESLINE!

Orton, who received the majority of the impact, staggers away from the corner and falls to the canvas, leaving Cody Rhodes exposed against the turnbuckles. Christian mounts Rhodes and gets up on the second rope, before he begins to punch Rhodes right in the head, first once, then twice, then more and more times! The crowd pops as Christian gets to a tally of eight blows before Rhodes musters up some strength and grabs Christian, before stepping away from the ropes. Cody grabs the champ in position for the Alabama Slam, but before he can hit his former partner Hardcore Holly’s move, Christian saves himself by grabbing onto the nearest thing he can find- a recovering Randy Orton! Realising what is going on, Orton turns around and takes full advantage of the situation as HE LEAPS AND TAKES CHRISTIAN OFF RHODES’ SHOULDERS WITH AN RKO! The crowd boos as “The Instant Classic” hits the canvas and Orton immediately goes for the cover!

RHODES BREAKS IT UP!

Luckily for the World Heavyweight Champion, he is saved by the triple threat stipulation of the match, as Cody Rhodes is there to break up the pin attempt. Unhappily that Orton ‘stole his prey’ in a sense, Cody drops a knee on “The Viper” before wrenching him to his feet. “Disfigured” Cody Rhodes then grabs Orton in a headlock and kicks him in the midsection before PLANTING HIM DOWN ON THE MAT WITH A DDT! Rhodes makes the cover!

ONE!

T- KICK OUT!

Orton kicks out with mere milliseconds left before Rhodes would have been crowned the new World Heavyweight Champion. Cody slaps the mat in frustration as he gets to his feet, before stomping on Orton twice to make sure he stays down. Cody grabs Orton’s legs and he twists them around his own, pulling “The Viper” onto his stomach AND CONTORTING HIM INTO A FIGURE FOUR LEG LOCK! The crowd boos as what could be a tribute to Ric Flair, they see as disrespect from the young Cody Rhodes. He wrenches on Orton, who writhes in pain and attempts to claw himself towards the bottom rope, but to no avail as Rhodes pulls him towards the centre of the ring. Orton is on the verge of quitting and HE RAISES AN ARM TO TAP- WAIT!

The crowd pops as Christian is in the ring and he breaks up the submission with a dropkick on Rhodes! There are more cheers as a very frustrated Cody Rhodes charges at Christian, who is standing in the corner, only for “Captain Charisma” to dodge and for Rhodes to eat turnbuckle! Adding insult to injury, Christian then uses the ropes TO NAIL CODY RIGHT IN THE NOSE WITH THE PENDULUM KICK! Cody staggers back but Christian makes sure he isn’t going anywhere as he grabs him in a headlock and PULLS HIM FACE FIRST INTO THE MAT WITH A ROPE ASSISTED TORNADO DDT! There is a huge cheer as Christian makes a cover!

ONE!

TWO!

THRE- NO! NO! NO!

Orton has managed to break up the pin at the very last second, preventing Christian from retaining his World Heavyweight Championship. Christian curses and he ducks down in the corner, waiting for Orton get to his feet. We see mannerisms reminiscent of Christian’s friend and former partner Edge and the crowd cheers, knowing what is coming. After a few seconds, Orton finally manages to get to his feet and CHRISTIAN RUNS FOR THE SPEAR- ORTON DODGES! The crowd boos as Christian’s momentum carries him shoulder first into the ring post of the opposite corner and Orton feebly manages to pull him away and ROLL HIM UP IN A SMALL PACKAGE!

ONE!

TWO!

KICK OUT!

The crowd breathes a sigh of relief as Christian keeps himself in the match. Orton gets up, his leg slightly buckling under the pressure put on them by Cody’s Figure Four Leg Lock, but he maintains his stability and lifts Christian up as well. Orton takes a moment to stare in the eyes of his nemesis, before leaping into the air for a pinpoint dropkick, that connects with Christian’s chest and knocks him back down to the canvas. Orton gets back to his feet and sadistically looks over Christian, before once again leaping up, this time hitting a double knee drop, once again targeting the ribs. Punishing Christian has come at an expense to Orton’s knees, however, as “The Viper” tries to get up but needs to rest against the ropes to get through the pain. What Randy doesn’t realise, however, is that Cody Rhodes is on the outside taking another break and he grabs Orton’s legs, pulling his opponent down to the mat. Cody doesn’t stop there however as with all his might, he pulls Orton out of the ring and HE LANDS ON THE HARD OUTSIDE FLOOR FACE DOWN AND UNPROTECTED!

There is a mixed reaction from the crowd as Rhodes gets to work at Orton, pummeling him with boots to the back and limbs as he tries to wear down his opponent as much as he can. He lifts Orton to his feet and slams him back first into the ring apron and “The Viper” winces in pain. Rhodes takes a swig from DiBiase’s water bottle before rolling Orton into the ring. Instead of following him, he drags Orton by his leg across the ring until he reaches the ring post. Rhodes then slams Orton’s injured leg into the post not once, not twice, but three unforgiving times! Cody climbs up the steps and gets on the apron but before he can get in the ring, CHRISTIAN DROPKICKS HIM BACK TO THE OUTSIDE! Cody hits the floor as Ted DiBiase immediately goes and checks on him, as inside the ring, Christian pulls Orton into the centre of the ring and covers him!

TH- KICK OUT!

There are boos as Orton is still not done with this match, and the commentators take a moment to praise the resilience of all three men. Christian almost can’t believe it as gets to his feet and for the second time in the night crouches in the corner. The response is even louder this time as you can see the desire in The World Heavyweight Champion’s eyes as he waits for Orton to get to his feet. When Randy ascends to a vertical base, Christian ONCE AGAIN RUNS FOR THE SPEAR- THIS TIME IT CONNECTS! The crowd goes wild as Christian points to the ‘Peeps’ at ringside before pinning Orton!

ONE!

THRE- NO WAIT! ORTON KICKS OUT!

The atmosphere in the arena is electric and when Christian gets to his feet he almost can ‘t believe his eyes. “Captain Charisma” ducks through the ropes onto the apron before slowly climbing up to the top rope. The entire crowd buzzes with cheers as Christian points to the sky, paying homage to the late, great Eddie Guerrero. He takes one last look around the arena before LEAPING FOR THE FROG SPLA- WAIT A MINUTE! TED DIBIASE HAS PUSHED CHRISTIAN DOWN TO THE MAT! THE CHAMP CRASHES AND BURNS! There could not be any more boos as the referee turns around and berates Ted DiBiase, who protests. The ref then points towards the stage and DiBiase can’t believe it as THE REFEREE EJECTS HIM FROM RINGSIDE! The crowd pops but their reaction suddenly changes abruptly as the referee turns around to see that Cody Rhodes is on top of Christian, hooking both legs!

TH- KICK OUT!

There is a roar from the crowd as the veteran, “Captain Charisma” has once again kicked out to stay in the match. Cody Rhodes, so close to winning his first World title, scowls as he gets back to his feet. He turns to look at DiBiase, who is already half way up the ramp and when he focuses his attention back on the match, RANDY ORTON JUMPS UP AT HIM AND CATCHES HIM WITH THE RKO- NO! CODY PUSHES ORTON AWAY, SAVING HIMSELF! Orton stumbles away before Cody Rhodes runs towards him, ONLY FOR RANDY TO CATCH HIM WITH A SNAP POWERSLAM! After the initial impact, Orton springs back up to his feet- BUT CHRISTIAN GRABS HIM FROM BEHIND AND PULLS HIM TO THE MAT WITH THE EDGE-O-MATIC! There is a pop as Christian lands covering Orton!

THRE- CODY RHODES BREAKS IT UP!

The crowd boos but they’re all on their feet at this point as they watch both Christian and Cody Rhodes get to their feet. Cody goes for a punch but Christian blocks it and hits one of his own! Cody staggers backwards as Christian grabs him, only for Rhodes to rake the eyes! The crowd boos as Rhodes Irish whips Christian, only for the champ to reverse the momentum and send Cody flying face first into the corner! Rhodes staggers back, still facing the corner, AS CHRISTIAN TWISTS HIM INTO POSITION FOR THE KILLSWITCH- HE NAILS IT! The crowd goes crazy as Christian covers!

THREE- OH MY GOD! ORTON BREAKS IT UP AT THE LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT!

The crowd isn’t happy, as Orton has only just managed to softly club Christian in the back and break the count. “Captain Charisma” gets up, lifting Orton with him, and LOOKS TO PUT HIS OPPONENT AWAY WITH THE KILLSWITCH- ORTON TWISTS OUT OF THE MOVE! HE JUMPS UP FOR THE RKO- CHRISTIAN PUSHES ORTON AWAY! The roof is being raised of the arena as CHRISTIAN PULLS ORTON INTO POSITION ONE MORE TIME- CHRISTIAN HITS RANDY ORTON WITH THE KILLSWITCH! The ‘Peeps’ are going absolutely mental as for what seems like the hundredth time, Christian covers Randy Orton!

Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion: Christian via Pinfall (16:02)

There is a huge pop for “Captain Charisma” as Christian holds on to his title! He raises his World Heavyweight Championship into the air as both Rhodes and Orton leave the ring and begins exiting without attention being drawn to them. Christian celebrates with his ‘Peeps’ some more until Wade Barrett’s music plays to heat. The new Mr. Money In The Bank walks out onto the stage, briefcase in hand, with a referee next to him, and makes his way down to the ring. However, before Barrett can cash in his shot, Christian slides out of the ring and gets to the outside. He begins retreating up the ramp and shaking his head, having outsmarted Barrett, who stands in the ring shouting and pointing at Christian. The World Heavyweight Champion’s music plays once again and he makes his way to the back, his title safely in his hands.

We cut to a split screen shot backstage of both CM Punk and John Cena walking in separate corridors, both of them alone. The crowd pops as the commentators remind us that the WWE title match is mere minutes away. After an impressive as usual video package on the feud, Punk makes his entrance to a mixed reaction leaning on boos, followed by WWE Champion Cena, to a mixed reaction leaning on cheers. The two competitors, without their allies, step into the ring and stare each other down as the referee announces them both. The announcers do one final round of hype for the main event of Money In The Bank 2011 before the match finally gets underway.

Main Event
WWE Championship
CM Punk vs. John Cena ©

The match begins with some trash talking, with Cena asking if Punk can win without help from The Straight Edge Society and Punk replying by saying that Cena’s title reign is over. The banter is replaced by some brawling, which Cena gets the better off, prompting Punk to roll out of the ring and take a breather, getting a break from the match. The next few minutes see the match progress from a brawl to an actual wrestling bout and Punk’s little breaks also cease to exist after a few minutes, as he matches the champ’s aggression. He even manages to get the upper hand over Cena after a crafty eye rake that the ref missed, and following the illegal move the entire dynamic of the match shifts in Punk’s favour.

Punk has Cena on the outside under his control, after clotheslining the WWE Champion over the top rope. He picks up Cena and grabs the back of the head before slamming him down face first into the ring apron. The crowd boos as Cena ricochets backwards but Punk doesn’t waste any time as he grabs Cena and this time leads him over to the ring post, where once again he pushes his head into the steel. Punk slides in and out of the ring to reset the referee’s count, showing that he’s fully aware of what’s going on in the match. He grabs Cena once again and once again slams him face first, this time into the ring barricade, right next to the announcers. The crowd continues to boo as Cena clutches his possibly broken nose in pain while Punk pulls him towards the announce table. For the fourth consecutive time, he grabs the back of Cena’s head and slams him down onto the table- wait! Cena outstretches an arm and blocks the impact!

The crowd pops as Cena counters Punk with a back elbow to the forehead that sends him staggering backwards. He turns around and meets Punk with a stiff right hand to the temple that sends him staggering backwards into the ring apron. The crowd pops as Cena rolls Punk into the ring and “The Straight Edge Saviour” uses the ropes to get himself back to his feet, still feeling slightly dazed. Cena gets up onto the apron but Punk immediately grabs him and pulls him through the top two ropes. Cena dangles on his stomach on the middle rope as Punk takes a step back BEFORE VICIOUSLY KICKING CENA RIGHT IN THE FACE WITH A MASSIVE FRONT SNAP KICK! The crowd boos as the impact sends Cena back through the ropes and onto the ring apron before he rolls to the outside, where he impacts on the floor with a thud.

Punk looks to immediately capitalize on the situation as he rolls under the bottom rope and meets Cena on the outside. He kicks Cena softly in the face, not to harm him but just out of disrespect for his opponent. Punk then brings Cena up to his feet and tosses him over onto the announce table, which garners a cheer because the crowd loves it any time a table gets involved. The announcers all move backwards to get out of the way and Punk quickly ducks in and out of the ring once more. He moves over to The WWE Champion and slaps him in the face as he lies on the table, causing a great roar of displeasure from the crowd. Punk trash talks his opponent as he gets onto the table and lifts Cena to his feet, before grabbing him to keep him under control. Punk lifts Cena up for what looks like a snap scoop powerslam- Cena slides off and lands behind Punk! The crowd cheers as Cena then grabs Punk and RUNS FORWARD TO HIT CM PUNK WITH A ONE HANDED BULLDOG ONTO THE TABLE!

The crowd holds their breath but the table remains intact, to their disdain. Cena rolls off the table and grabs Punk, before pulling him off and then rolling him into the ring. Cena then follows him, sliding into the ring moments before the referee would have counted him out. Cena crawls over to Punk and drapes an arm over him in the cover!

PUNK KICKS OUT!

The crowd boos as the time it has taken for Cena to move Punk into the ring has allowed his body to recover and therefore kick out. A disappointed John Cena slowly gets up before grabbing a recovering CM Punk and trying to Irish whip him, only for Punk to hold onto the top rope. He then reverses the momentum and manages to whip Cena into the corner. Punk runs at “The Chain Gang Soldier” but out of nowhere CENA RUNS AT PUNK AND TACKLES HIM TO THE GROUND WITH A LOU THESZ PRESS! The crowd pops for the sudden aggressive outburst from Cena and it continues as he mounts Punk and nails him with lefts and rights to the head as Punk tries to shield himself. Cena keeps hitting blow after blow until the referee forces him off and Cena complies, not wanting to get himself disqualified. Cena then stands up and runs off the ropes before standing in front of Punk, and with the crowd already cheering, does his usual theatrics and “you can’t see me” hand wave before HITTING THE FIVE KNUCKLE SHUFFLE- PUNK ROLLS OUT OF THE WAY!

The crowd boos as Cena hits the mat and shakes out the pain from his fist, before going after Punk, only to see that his opponent has continued to roll all the way out of the ring and is recovering on the outside. Cena walks over towards the edge of the ring but as he approaches Punk, “The Second City Saint” grabs his legs and pulls them, forcing Cena to hit the mat back first and then hit the floor, also back first, as Punk pulls him out of the ring. Cena rolls onto his stomach and Punk lifts him up by the back of his head, before stomping him back to the floor, again targeting the face, as he was minutes earlier. Punk then wrenches Cena back up to his feet, before picking him up for a flapjack and sending Cena face first into the ring apron with the move! The crowd boos as Cena ricochets backwards and stumbles, trying to stay on his feet, but Punk puts an end to it AS HE SMACKS CENA RIGHT IN THE FACE WITH A BRUTAL ROUNDHOUSE KICK!

The crowd boos as Cena immediately hits the floor like a sack of potatoes and it can now be seen that blood is pouring from his nose after sustaining many blows to the region. Punk smiles and wipes some of Cena’s blood onto his finger, before raising his finger high into the air, showing the crowd what he has done, and this gesture is met with thunderous heat. CM Punk lifts Cena to his feet before throwing him into the ring. He soon follows himself and leaps onto Cena as he hooks both legs in a cover!

The crowd cheers as The WWE Champion manages to stay in the match! Punk on the other hand isn’t as joyful regarding the kick out and he berates the referee, telling him that the pinfall was too slow. Punk, looking noticeably more pissed off then before, lifts- no, yanks, Cena to his feet. He Irish whips Cena into the nearest corner and Cena slams into the turnbuckles, with drops of blood falling from his upper lip to the ground after being shaken from the impact. Punk paces back before running and nailing Cena with the STEP UP HIGH KNEE TO THE JAW! The crowd boos as Punk latches on to Cena and moves away from the turnbuckle, FOLLOWING UP WIT THE RUNNING BULLDOG! The boos increase as Cena’s nose is no doubt broken by now, after two more high impact moves, and Punk looks to capitalise on the pain with a cover!

THR- NO! CENA KICKS OUT!

The crowd is finally given a reason to cheer as the resilience of The WWE Champion is shown, Cena not being ready to give up his title that easily. Punk stands up and looks down at Cena, staring daggers at him, before sitting by him and grabbing his arm… PUNK TWISTS CENA INTO THE ANACONDA VICE! The crowd goes crazy as the referee checks up on John Cena, who is wincing under the pain. A ‘Cena’ chant starts up and within seconds the arena is flooded with every single person chanting the name of the WWE Champion. Punk keeps applying pressure but Cena hears the support, and suddenly starts shouting, almost roaring and he even begins to stir. There are some huge cheers as Cena shakes his arm and gets some momentum going, BEFORE HE IS ABLE TO TURN PUNK ONTO HIS STOMACH! The crowd pops but then Cena changes his grip and SOMEHOW MANAGES TO REVERSE THE ANACONDA VICE INTO THE STF! CENA HAS PUNK IN THE STF!

The crowd pops like crazy as Punk finds himself trapped and “The Second City Saint” tries clawing himself towards the ropes! Cena tries with all his might to pull back with the hold and wrench on Punk’s neck but all that time in the Anaconda Vice took a lot of energy out of him and after a few seconds of crawling Punk reaches out… AND GETS A FINGERTIP ON THE BOTTOM ROPE! The crowd is white hot as Cena is forced to break the hold and he rolls onto his back, physically incapable of moving, and it looks like Punk is in the same state as he lies on the canvas, panting and unable to move.

Punk nails Cena with a right hand, but Cena blocks it and hits one of his own to a pop! Punk goes for another but it is blocked again and this time Cena retaliates with a trio of hard right hands! Punk staggers backwards, swaying on the spot as Cena runs backwards off the ropes and hits Punk with his signature leaping shoulder block! The crowd pops as Cena waits for Punk to get up and then picks him up, before planting him down on the canvas with his modified spin out powerbomb! The cheer from the crowd crescendos as Cena runs off the ropes one more and does his trademark theatrics before HITTING THE FIVE KNUCKLE SHUFFLE, THIS TIME SUCCESSFULLY!

Cena stands up before doing the ‘you can’t see me’ taunt one more time and waiting for Punk to get up. A few seconds later he does so and CENA LIFTS HIM INTO HIS SHOULDERS FOR THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT! The crowd goes mental AS CENA LIFTS HIM OVER HIS SHOULDERS- WAIT! PUNK FLIPS THROUGH AND LANDS ON HIS FEET! He and Cena turn around to face each other once again and Punk rakes the eyes- THE REF MISSES THE BLATANT FOUL! Punk lifts Cena onto his shoulders with the heat from the crowd reaching blowing point! He raises Cena into the air… NAILING THE GTS! CENA COMES CRASHING DOWN BROKEN NOSE FIRST ONTO PUNK’S KNEE! WAIT JUST A FUCKING MINUTE! CENA HAS HIS HAND UNDER THE BOTTOM ROPE! THE REF SEES IT! THE MATCH CONTINUES!

There is an unparalleled pop as John Cena has survived by the skin of his teeth and Punk can’t believe what he has just seen. “The Straight Edge Saviour” gets back to his feet and looks legitimately stunned that his trademark GTS couldn’t put Cena away. He suddenly has an idea and picks up Cena’s leg before he starts dragging him across the ring to the edge closest to the announcers. Punk slides out of the ring before pulling Cena to the outside as well and immediately grabbing him and throwing him onto the announce table once more. Punk steps onto the announce table and lifts Cena onto his feet before bringing him up onto his shoulders. The commentators bring up that a GTS can’t put Cena through the table but then Punk’s intentions are clear AS HE LIFTS CENA IN THE AIR FOR THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT- CENA CHANGES DIRECTION! HE LANDS ON HIS FEET BEHIND CM PUNK! Punk turns around as Cena musters up all his strength and lifts Punk onto his shoulders… BEFORE DOING A 360° ROTATION FOR THE FANS AND SLAMMING CM PUNK THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE TABLE WITH THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT!

The crowd goes absolutely crazy as both men just lay there in the wreckage of the table for a few seconds as we hear the ref counting from inside the ring.

THRE- NO! PUNK KICKS OUT!

The crowd goes crazy, many not caring who wins anymore, just wanting this epic match to continue. Both men take another few moments to just lay on the canvas, before Cena gets to his feet once more, although he needs to use the ropes to do so, the match having taken so much out of him. He stands and catches his breath for a moment, before pulling Punk up to his feet and doing the one thing he can think of to finally end this match. Once more, he brings Punk onto his shoulders and the crowd goes crazy! CENA LIFTS PUNK INTO THE AIR FOR ONE MORE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT- NO, WAIT! PUNK WRAPS HIS FEET AROUND THE TOP ROPE, STOPPING THE EXECUTION OF THE MOVE!

Cena is forced to drop Punk, who lands on his feet and breathes heavily after his intelligent counter, no doubt saving him from losing the match. Punk turns around to face Cena, whoever is already waiting for him though as HE PICKS UP PUNK AND DROPS HIM WITH A FISHERMAN’S SUPLEX! Instead of covering though, Cena gets to his feet and makes his way over to the corner, where he slowly pulls himself up- first onto the bottom rope and then onto the second. The crowd pops as Cena prepares for his diving leg drop bulldog, but CM Punk sees The WWE Champion perched and ready to jump and he immediately staggers towards the corner. Punk steps up onto the second rope to join Cena, shouldering him into the gut to wind him. Cena replies with a stiff duo of punches but out of nowhere PUNK KICKS HIM IN THE HEAD WITH AN RVD-ESQUE ROUNDHOUSE OUT OF NOWHERE! Cena sways around on the second ropes and Punk grabs him in double underhook position AND LEAPS BACKWARDS OFF THE SECOND ROPE, IMPLANTING CENA INTO THE CANVAS WITH THE PEPSI PLUNGE!

There is a huge mixed reaction as Punk, instead of going for the cover, wearily gets to his feet and with a big heave, pulls Cena back up to his feet and “The Champ” looks like he doesn’t know where he is. With a new stream of blood coming from Cena’s nose, Punk looks him dead in the eyes and lifts him up, one more time, onto his shoulders. With the arena at fever pitch, Punk raises Cena into the air AND SLAMS HIM DOWN WITH A SECOND GTS! Cena collapses onto the mat and Punk collapses on top of him, the execution of that last move taking all energy out of him!
