Re: WWE 2011: Pushing the Boundaries
Friday Night Smackdown Preview
September 2, 2011
Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Tonight Smackdown emanates from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! And after the events of last week, Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long has promised us that we will see some improvements in the way that the show is run, as his job is at risk if he doesn't. One of the promises we have already been told is that we will find out the final three participants in the Six-Pack Challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions. Last week we saw Mark Henry and Wade Barrett qualify by defeating Sin Cara and Daniel Bryan, respectively. We however only know one of the matches that will determine a place, and that is "The Celtic Warrior" Sheamus taking on Jinder Mahal. Sheamus has had issues with Henry in the past few weeks, so Night of Champions would be a chance to prove himself against "The World's Strongest Man". As well as the promise for that match from Theodore Long, he has also informed us of another big announcement that he wants to make, and he says it is regarding the Smackdown in two weeks time that comes out of Toronto in Canada! That won't be all we have to hear from Theodore Long tonight, as Beth Phoenix was instructed by WWE COO Triple H that she had to apologize for her actions last week on Smackdown if she were to get what she wanted; A Divas Championship Match at Night of Champions. Will Phoenix swallow her pride and say sorry?
Last week, Randy Orton retained the World Heavyweight Championship in a brutal Falls Count Anywhere Match against Christian; a match that left the latter in a hospital. Although many see this as the end of the heated rivalry between the two, both men will be present tonight and we are bound to hear from them both, regarding where they go next. We know that Orton is headed to Night of Champions to defend his championship against five of Smackdown's elite, but what does the future hold for Captain Charisma? Will he manage to worm his way into the Six-Pack Challenge?
Last week Mark Henry qualified for the Six-Pack Challenge by defeating Sin Cara. Tonight, he will go one on one with Yoshi Tatsu. This is a great chance to build some momentum going into the Pay-Per-View.
This week, we have been told that Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase are going to present us with another "Intercontinental Championship Challenge". So far we have seen Yoshi Tatsu and William regal try but ultimately fail to earn themselves an Intercontinental Championship opportunity. Last week though, we saw that DiBiase is not afraid to get himself involved, as he was the one that cost William Regal the chance of a title match. Whoever accepts the challenge tonight must be prepared to fend off not just Rhodes but DiBiase also.
Justin Gabriel got a victory over his former tag team partner on Smackdown last week. Tonight, he looks to carry on his winning ways against the fierce Tyson Kidd.
