Double posting cos' it's my thread.
1. The Wrens - Meadowlands
Genre : Indie
Year : 2003
One of the best indie albums I've heard in my life. Downbeat yet uplifting. Eerie but beautiful. Immense song-writing ability that reminds me a LOT of The Antlers (and we all know how awesome they are). Acquire.
2. Helios - Eingya
Genre : Electronic
Year : 2006
I feel as though I've neglected Electronic recs, so here's one. Awesome stuff that straddles the line between post-rock soundscapes and more regular styles. Has a similar feel to the last Cloudkicker LP in terms of atmosphere.
3. Mahria - S/T Cassette
Genre : Emo
Year : 2011
An emo band with a female vocalist, you say? An emo band with a female vocalist who is FUCKING AWESOME, you say? Yes, I say. Ferocious musicianship also. Another beast to add to the 2011 list.
4. Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul
Genre : Soul
Year : 1969
This dude is awesome. Partially for being called Isaac (my name for those who don't know) and secondly for releasing this seminal soul classic. Opening track is perfect, and it doesn't let up. Heartfelt brilliance.
5. Will Haven - Voir Dire
Genre : Metalcore
Year : 2011
You know this year might be better than 2003 now. So many good albums. Here we have a sick metalcore release with sludge & doom influences and one of the best atmospheres since I heard Enslaved latest LP. Get it. Credit to Gimmicks' for highlighting this release, as I might have missed it otherwise.
