I guess this finale was written to tie up the story just in case they didn't get a renewal. Would have been disappointing as a series finale. Not how I would expect the show to go out.
If this season doesn't win the show a Best Drama emmy then they should just stop being considered. How Mad Men has 3 (or do they have 4 now?) while Breaking Bad has 0 I will never know.
