Monday Night Raw Preview ~ 07/04/05 ~ Sacramento, CA
With the Draft Lottery finally at its conclusion, one can only hope that the anxiety that has recently emerged amongst the Raw locker room will quickly vanquish as Raw makes its way to Sacramento for a show full of questions, and hopefully, answers.
The biggest question on everyone's mind has been regarding the whereabouts of 'The Game', Triple H, who has yet to be seen since losing to Batista in the Hell in a Cell Match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Vengeance. It has been confirmed by a source of whom is very close with Triple H that he will not be on Raw tonight, and by the way things are looking, will not be on Raw for a long period of time. The reasons for this hiatus are unknown, but Eric Bischoff is seemingly becoming angrier and angrier that one of his top superstars has simply walked out on him when he is under more pressure than ever from Mr. McMahon.
Last week, Kurt Angle challenged Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship in what would turn out to be Batista's last match on Raw as he was sent to SmackDown this past Friday in the Draft Lottery. Angle came up on the losing end, however, as when he tried to take advantage of an unconscious referee by use of a steel chair, Shawn Michaels ran down to the ring and delivered some Sweet Chin Music, allowing Batista to eventually hit the Batista Bomb and retain his prestigious World Title. At a house show this past weekend, Angle reportedly caused two different matches to end in No Contests as he attacked all participants in a fit of rage over what happened last Monday night. Will Kurt Angle be able to get his revenge on Shawn Michaels for ruining one of the greatest opportunities of Angle's illustrious career? Or will Shawn Michaels be able to justify his actions and presumably get away with murder?
It's no secret that Edge and Kane have been nothing short of enemies in recent weeks. After Lita betrayed her then-husband, Kane, and joined forces with Edge in the finals of the Gold Rush Tournament back in May, these two men have been at each other's throats. Kane's win at Vengeance seemed to have made a mark, that is, until Edge Speared both the Big Red Machine and the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, before following it up by knocking Kane unconscious with his trusty Money in the Bank briefcase. Tonight, Edge has requested time in the ring, and this is a prime example of when answers are wanted as Edge is expected to explain his actions from last week and where his and Kane's hatred towards each other is headed.
When The Big Show joined Raw last week in the draft, he was more than eager to try and be the first one to break out of Chris Masters' infamous Masterlock. When the moment arrived, it appeared as if fear, or even realization, overwhelmed Masters, who tried to attack the Big Show with a steel chair, only to be dropped with a massive Chokeslam. Tonight, both men will head their separate ways as Chris Masters goes one-on-one with another big man, Viscera, while The Big Show takes on Chavo Guerrero in a battle of the draftees. Although both men seem to have some issues with each other that have yet to be resolved, tonight could prove to be a perfect opportunity to send the other a message, assuming they can manage to defeat their respective opponents.
Rene Dupree and Sylvain Grenier were proud to announce that they have reunited as La Resistance, and more importantly, plan on taking the World Tag Team Championships from the Superheroes, Rosey and The Hurricane. Tonight, Sylvain will compete in singles action against Tajiri, who has recently reunited himself with new draftee Kenzo Suzuki. In a singles match that will ultimately have a strong impact on the tag team division in the long run, who will pull through with a victory?
The Intercontinental Champion, Carlito, has been confirmed to compete tonight. Although his opponent has not been confirmed, three things regarding the match and his opponent have been; The match should be easy, it's not a title defense, and it's not against Shelton Benjamin, who's been dying to get his hands on Carlito after title losses to Carlito at Vengeance and on Raw a couple of weeks ago. With Shelton Benjamin currently not being considered by Eric Bischoff as a worthy contender, who will step up to the plate and be the next to challenge Carlito for the coveted Intercontinental Championship?
As well, tonight marks the beginning of the 2005 Raw Diva Search, which will see eight young women battling it out for $250,000, and more importantly, a 1-year contract on Raw. Apparently, this year's batch of aspiring divas is even more determined and competitive than last year's, and just what exactly these girls are willing to put themselves through to become a Raw diva remains to be seen.
Chris Jericho is expected to be present at Raw, although he has yet to be booked in a match, and after emerging unsuccessful in two opportunities to capture the WWE Championship, one has to wonder where his career will head next.
Tune into Raw tonight at 9/8 CT on Spike TV to catch all this and more!
